A 10–11 PM night departure from Delhi gets you to Rishikesh by 3–4 AM and Auli by early morning, allowing you to be on the ski slopes or gondola for the magical first light over Nanda Devi. Night travel also avoids Haridwar city traffic completely.

Even if you drive all the way up from Joshimath, make sure to take the gondola at least once — ideally at dawn. The 4 km ride over oak forest and snowfields with Nanda Devi directly in front of you is one of the finest single experiences in the Indian mountains.
The drive from Rishikesh to Joshimath passes through all five of the Panch Prayag — sacred river confluences where clear Himalayan tributaries merge. Devprayag (Ganga confluence) and Rudraprayag are the most dramatic — ask our driver to stop for photos.
