About the Yatra
Himachal Pradesh is home to some of the most powerful and ancient Shakti shrines in all of India. The Nau Devi Yatra (Nine Goddess Tour) is a sacred circuit covering nine revered Devi temples spread across the hills of Himachal — from the eternal flame of Jwalamukhi to the wish-fulfilling Chintpurni, from the majestic Chamunda Devi to the hilltop Naina Devi.
These nine temples are all Shakti Pithas or highly venerated Devi shrines — locations where the goddess resides with particular power. Together they form a complete Shakti Parikrama of Himachal Pradesh — a journey through the divine feminine energy that permeates the hills of this sacred state.
The tour is especially auspicious during Navratri (March–April and September–October) when all temples are decorated magnificently and special aartis and bhajans continue around the clock. Our AC vehicle and hill-expert driver ensure a comfortable, safe and spiritually fulfilling yatra through the mountain roads of Himachal.
The Nine Divine Goddesses
Each of the nine Devi temples holds a unique form of the divine goddess and a sacred story woven into the mountains of Himachal Pradesh.
The Flame Goddess — nine eternal natural flames burn from the earth with no fuel source, believed to be manifestations of nine Devis. One of the 51 Shakti Pithas. Emperor Akbar famously tried and failed to extinguish these flames.
Maa Chintpurni — the worry-dispelling goddess. One of the most visited temples in Himachal, she is believed to fulfil all wishes and remove all sorrows of her devotees. The temple sits on a hillock surrounded by the Shiwalik range.
Maa Bajreshwari — one of the 51 Shakti Pithas, located in the historic Kangra town at the foothills of the Dhauladhar range. The ancient temple was repeatedly plundered and rebuilt — its gold-plated spires are a testament to enduring devotion.
Maa Chamunda — the fierce warrior goddess who slew Chanda and Munda demons. The temple sits dramatically on the banks of the Baner River near Palampur with the snow-capped Dhauladhar as backdrop. Famous for its midnight aarti during Navratri.
Atop the Naina Devi Hill — one of the 51 Shakti Pithas, where the eyes of Goddess Sati are believed to have fallen. Accessible by ropeway. The panoramic views of the Gobind Sagar lake and Shivalik hills create a divine setting.
Also known as Nagarkot Devi — one of the most ancient Shakti Pithas in north India. The goddess is worshipped as the presiding deity of Kangra valley and receives offerings from devotees across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
The presiding deity of Solan town — Maa Shoolini is the goddess carrying a trident (shool). The annual Shoolini Mela is one of the oldest fairs in Himachal Pradesh. The temple sits atop a hill offering panoramic views of the Shivalik range.
The Jakhu Temple on the highest peak of Shimla is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, but the Jakhu Hill is also home to the sacred Jakhu Devi manifestation. The 33-metre Hanuman statue is visible from across Shimla. Often included in the Nau Devi circuit.
Maa Bhimakali — the ancient Shakti Pitha in Sarahan, Kinnaur district. The unique temple with its pagoda-style architecture blends Hindu and Buddhist influences, reflecting Kinnaur's cultural richness. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Srikhand Mahadev range.

Depart Chandigarh. Drive to Naina Devi Temple (95 km) — ascend by ropeway to the hilltop Shakti Pitha. Breathtaking views of Gobind Sagar Lake. Descend and visit Anandpur Sahib (Sikh heritage site). Continue to Bilaspur for overnight stay.
Morning drive to Chintpurni Temple (Una district) — darshan at the wish-fulfilling Devi. Continue to the unmissable Jwalamukhi Temple (Kangra) — witness the nine eternal flames burning from the earth. Powerful aarti experience. Overnight Kangra.
Morning darshan at Kangra Devi (Bajreshwari) — one of India's oldest Shakti Pithas. Drive to Chamunda Devi Temple on the Baner River banks near Palampur. Evening aarti — especially spectacular during Navratri. Optional visit to Dharamsala / McLeod Ganj. Overnight Palampur / Dharamsala.
Darshan at Brajeshwari Devi Temple. Drive south through the Kangra valley to Maa Shoolini Temple in Solan — the trident goddess with panoramic Shivalik views. Continue to Shimla. Visit Jakhu Temple (33 m Hanuman statue, Jakhu Hill) — the eighth sacred site of the circuit. Overnight Shimla.
Early departure for Sarahan (165 km, ~4 hrs). Visit the magnificent Maa Bhimakali Temple — the pagoda-style temple with stunning views of the Kinnaur mountains. Darshan and prasad. Return to Shimla / Chandigarh. Tour concludes with the blessings of all nine Devis of Himachal. Jai Mata Di!

Traveller Guidance
Navratri (March–April and September–October) is the most auspicious time. All nine temples are beautifully decorated, midnight aartis are held, and the spiritual energy is at its most intense. Book accommodation 4–6 weeks ahead for Navratri trips.
Himachal hill roads require an early start — aim to depart by 7 AM each day. This ensures you reach temples before the peak crowd and gives ample time between sites. Evening drives on mountain roads in the dark should be avoided.
Even in summer, Himachal mornings are cool — especially at higher temples like Chamunda Devi and Bhimakali (Sarahan). Pack a light fleece or shawl. Winters can be very cold. Simple, modest clothing is respectful at all temple complexes.
The eternal flames at Jwalamukhi are extremely sacred — no offerings of ghee or oil are placed on the flames. Darshan is done from a designated distance. The gold-plated dome gifted by Maharaja Ranjit Singh is visible from miles away.
Pilgrim Stories
The Jwalamukhi Temple was beyond description — nine eternal flames burning from rock with no fuel, no explanation. Our driver from Hire Himachal knew every route, every shortcut, every temple timing. The Navratri aartis at Chamunda Devi at midnight were goosebump-inducing. Jai Mata Di!
A family of 7 — grandparents, parents, children. Hire Himachal Cab's Innova was perfect for the mountain roads. Our driver waited patiently at every temple, helped elderly grandparents navigate the steps. The ropeway at Naina Devi with the lake view was spectacular. Will book again!
Bhimakali Devi in Sarahan was a revelation — the pagoda temple against the snow-capped Kinnaur mountains was unlike anything I've seen in India. The entire Nau Devi circuit felt like being held by the divine mother at every step. Hire Himachal managed every detail. Deeply grateful!
