About the Yatra

Braj 84 Kos – Sacred Circuit of Krishna

The Braj 84 Kos Parikrama is one of the most ancient and revered pilgrimage circuits in Hinduism — a 252 km (84 kos) circumambulation of the entire sacred Braj region in Uttar Pradesh. The circuit encompasses the land where Lord Krishna was born, grew up, played his divine leelas and performed his miracles over 5,000 years ago.

The yatra covers the 7 principal towns of Braj: Mathura (Krishna's birthplace), Vrindavan (Krishna's playground), Govardhan (the hill Krishna lifted), Barsana (Radha's birthplace), Nandgaon (Krishna's foster home), Gokul (where Krishna was raised), and Mahavan — along with hundreds of sacred forests (kunja), ghats, temples and sites directly linked to the Bhagavata Purana narratives.

Traditionally performed on foot over 15–20 days, our cab-based circuit covers all key sites at a devotional yet comfortable pace in 3–5 days, making this ancient yatra accessible to all — including families, seniors and first-time visitors.

Essential Tips for Braj Yatra

Best: Oct–Mar & Holi

October to March is ideal for weather. The Holi season (February–March) with Lathmar Holi in Barsana and Phoolon wali Holi in Vrindavan makes this the most vibrant and spiritually charged time to do the circuit.

Govardhan on Foot

If your group includes able-bodied devotees, consider doing at least part of the 21 km Govardhan Parikrama on foot — walking barefoot on the sacred earth of Giriraj is considered the most meritorious way to complete this parikrama.

Radha Kund on Diwali

A dip in Radha Kund on Diwali night (Kartik Amavasya) is said to confer a year's merit of living in Vrindavan. If your travel coincides with Diwali, plan to be at Radha Kund on this sacred night.

Dress Modestly

The Braj circuit passes through deeply traditional Vaishnava communities. Dress modestly and simply — saffron or white is respected. Avoid leather items near temples. Most pilgrim-friendly areas have rules against non-veg food and alcohol.

What Our Travellers Say

The Braj 84 Kos circuit by cab was the most spiritually transformative journey of my life. Our driver knew every forest, every kund, every hidden temple. Walking the Govardhan Parikrama at dawn — the cool sand under bare feet, the chanting in the air — indescribable. Radhe Radhe!

We came during Lathmar Holi — what an explosion of colour, devotion and joy! Hire Himachal Cab got us to Barsana early enough for a great spot at the Radha Rani Temple. The entire 4-day Braj circuit was flawlessly arranged. Nandgaon at sunset was magical.

Radha Kund on Diwali night — hundreds of lamps floating on the dark water, chanting echoing across the sacred lake, the scent of flowers. I wept. Hire Himachal Cab made this possible, planning the whole Braj circuit around Diwali perfectly. Forever grateful.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q
What does 84 Kos mean?
One Kos is approximately 3 km in the traditional Indian measurement system. 84 Kos = ~252 km — this is the total circumference of the sacred Braj region as described in ancient texts like the Varaha Purana. The number 84 holds deep spiritual significance in Hinduism, representing the 84 lakh (8.4 million) forms of life in creation.
Q
Can the Braj 84 Kos be done by vehicle?
Yes — traditionally done on foot over 15–20 days, the modern cab-based version covers all major sacred sites in 3–5 days. Many temples, forests and sacred sites that pilgrims visit in the traditional yatra are accessible by vehicle. It is perfectly valid as a spiritual pilgrimage. Our driver knows the entire route intimately.
Q
What is Govardhan Parikrama?
Govardhan Parikrama is the 21 km circumambulation of Govardhan Hill — the sacred hill Lord Krishna lifted on His little finger. Devotees walk it barefoot, prostrating every few steps (Dandawat Parikrama) for maximum merit. The route passes Radha Kund, Kusum Sarovar, Dan Ghati and Mansi Ganga. Our vehicle can also do the parikrama route if walking is not possible.
Q
What is the significance of Radha Kund?
Radha Kund is considered the most sacred lake in all of Braj — and indeed in all of Vaishnavism. According to the Bhagavata Purana, a bath in Radha Kund on Kartik Amavasya (Diwali night) is equivalent to a full year of residence in Vrindavan. Even a few drops of Radha Kund water are considered supremely purifying.
Q
Is the Braj circuit suitable for seniors and families?
Absolutely — our cab-based Braj circuit is perfectly suited for all ages. Elderly pilgrims can visit every major site without trekking. We build in rest stops, plan comfortable paced days, and our drivers assist pilgrims at every location. The Govardhan Parikrama can be done by vehicle for those unable to walk.
