About the Pilgrimage
The Amarnath Cave is situated at an elevation of 3,888 metres (12,756 feet) in the Himalayas of Jammu & Kashmir. Every summer (June–August), a naturally formed ice Shivling appears inside the cave — growing and shrinking with the lunar cycle — and is believed to represent Lord Shiva himself. This is one of the most physically demanding and spiritually charged pilgrimages in India.
The yatra is open for only a few months each year (approximately June to August), controlled by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board which regulates daily pilgrim numbers. Two main routes lead to the cave: the Pahalgam route (traditional, 36 km one way, 3–4 days, gradual ascent) and the Baltal route (shorter, 14 km one way, 1 day, steep ascent). A helicopter service also operates from Neelgrath/Pahalgam to Panchtarni (2 km from cave).
Our Amarnath Yatra package covers the entire journey — from Delhi/Jammu by AC vehicle to the base camp, with expert drivers experienced in high-altitude mountain roads, yatra registration assistance, and full 24/7 support throughout.
Key Routes & Highlights
Every step of the Amarnath Yatra is a step closer to Lord Shiva — these are the key points of this epic pilgrimage.
The sacred cave where a naturally formed ice Shivling appears each summer, growing and waning with the moon. Two smaller ice formations — Parvati Pitha and Ganesha — also appear beside it. The darshan of this divine manifestation is the ultimate goal of the yatra.
The traditional and most scenic route starting from Pahalgam. The 36 km trail passes through Chandanwari, Sheshnag Lake (a mesmerizing glacial lake) and Panchtarni before reaching the cave. Takes 3–4 days; gradual ascent suits older pilgrims and families.
The shorter, steeper route from Baltal — 14 km one way, completable in a single day for fit pilgrims. The ascent is steep and challenging but offers faster access to the cave. Popular with pilgrims who have limited time.
Helicopter services operate from Pahalgam/Neelgrath to Panchtarni (2 km from cave), reducing the trek dramatically. Ideal for senior pilgrims, those with health limitations, or anyone wanting a faster, more comfortable option. Seats are limited and must be booked well in advance.

Traveller Guidance
A medical fitness certificate from a registered doctor is compulsory for the yatra permit. Train for high altitude 4–6 weeks before departure — daily cardio, breathing exercises and acclimatisation walks are strongly recommended.
Spend at least one extra day at Pahalgam or Baltal to acclimatise before starting the trek. Ascending too quickly to 3,888 m can cause acute mountain sickness (AMS) — rest, hydrate and ascend slowly.
Temperatures at the cave drop below freezing even in peak summer. Pack thermal layers, a heavy fleece, waterproof jacket, trekking boots, gloves, woollen cap and rain poncho. Lightweight is key — porters and horses are available.
Amarnath Yatra permits are issued in limited numbers daily by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB). Registration opens 2–3 months before the season. Apply online at shriamarnathjishrine.com — seats fill up within days of opening.
